TESTIMONIALS
Here are a some of my favorite emailed comments from parents who were kind enough to share.
“BTW, the portfolios were OUTSTANDING. Jules proudly took our family through her work on Thanksgiving.
...Jules loves the time she spends in your studio. We are very proud of the care and pride that she gets from the work she is creating. Thank you for being an excellent mentor for our children.” Lisa
“My kids thoroughly enjoyed Susan’s classes and produced fabulous, colorful pieces. Susan's classes are fun, and she also keeps a close eye on a child to encourage him or her to keep working on a piece until there is "something there". We framed some art and Susan exhibits the kids' work at a "gallery event" in her studio and, more recently, at Hilton Library. If you were considering an activity for your child, I would really recommend one of Susan's art classes.” Best regards, Carolyn
“Thank you for providing Hannah with such a rich art experience! We will definitely see you again! She loved coming to your class. Thanks again” Maggie
“And thank you Susan for your good work with the girls. We were reading a ballerina book last night, which was illustrated with paintings by Degas, and I got all sorts of commentary about pastels and blending which I know was inspired by your teaching. Again thanks a million.” Lisa B.
“… My son loved your class so much! He did a week at the NJ Visual Arts Center this summer. It was a full day and he still didn't do one thing that was as good as what he did in your class.” Sybil
“I just wanted to tell you how much my son enjoyed his first class. He got in the car and said he had some ideas for drawing and would like to spend a couple of hours with me drawing at the kitchen table this weekend. That’s some inspiration to come from a first class! Thanks,” Alison
“I can't tell you how much Gab LOVES your classes! I like what you are doing. My uncle was an art teacher at Tuscan School for many many years and he was asking me what she was doing....he thought it was GREAT. He is currently the President of the Audobon Society for Artists. Many of his pieces have been in the Louvre and also auctioned off at Sothebys, see you soon,”- Geraldine
“Totally Awesome! Just thought I'd let you know what Molly said about the art class! And her brother was just as enthusiastic!”- Susan
“...Lizzy lives for art. She set up an art studio in her bedroom on Tuesday night, and spent over an hour "blending" the colors on her drawings using massive amounts of q-tips. She then demonstrated the technique to her sister. Your class is a very big deal in our house, and her sister cannot wait to be enrolled next year. I look forward to seeing you at the art show. - Patricia
“Thanks so much! I meant to tell you how much Michael enjoyed your class. In fact, he arranged the dining room chairs in the living room while relatives were visiting so we could assemble as an audience as he formally presented each of the works in his portfolio. - Gina

If you’re wishing for a child-centered and unpredictable art class experience, I write to recommend Art Studio with Susan-Cohen-Harris in Maplewood. In the 2nd floor of her garage, a magical ‘tree-house’ feel is the space where the children are mutually respected as artists; where free expression is encouraged within thematic projects; where technique, renowned artists and diverse cultures are incorporated into the learning. -Marta

Someone may be able to post the link or email for Susan. She has an art studio over her garage. My daughter absolutely loved it. She teaches architecture, about different artists, they use many mediums to draw. I have never been so impressed with a class, and my daughter looked forward to it each week! I have all her art from the class framed and hanging in the house! She is truly fantastic. - 2009
Susan's classes (Art Studio) are wonderful. The kids develop an impressive portfolio at the conclusion of each session. And she advertises on MOL so just do a business search. She just opened up another class starting next week to keep up with interest, but it may be full by now!
“Thanks again for that great week of art camp. I can't believe the cool stuff William brings home after a week with you--the mask is incredible and I love the blue totem. Nice to meet you in person at long last, too! You are a Maplewood treasure.” - Tina

“Susan- Alexa was so ridiculously excited when she saw this. Thanks for sharing!” - Robin, 2009
